Farmers Market Finds
One of my favorite things about Summer is all of the fruits and vegetables that are in season. Summer weather just calls for lighter eating. I have been making salads for lunch pretty regularly and I can’t get enough of all the fresh berries, melon, and stone fruit. So when my friend said we should check out our local farmers market I was ready to go.
We visited the McKinney Farmers Market, near downtown McKinney, Texas. As my friend rightly described, downtown McKinney is so quaint and historic, it looks like you are on the set of a Hallmark Movie. The farmer’s market is pretty big. There is a labyrinth of stalls that are canopied by huge trees. So wear comfy clothes and shoes. I also advise you to bring an extra shopping bags for all of your goodies.
There were a plethora of stands with fresh and local produce. The market also had bakers, with fresh breads and pastries. I had the most delicious pastry and got a loaf of lemon rosemary bread. This bread was so good toasted or sliced fresh and dipped in olive oil.
I found green tomatoes and whipped up some fried green tomatoes when I got home. My MIL started a vegetable and herb garden with the kids, so we were excited to see they had herb plants for sale that we could add to the garden.
The market also has a mini petting zoo and pony rides for the kids. I can’t wait to return with my little ones. If you haven’t visited, you should check out your local farmers market. You never know what you’re going to find.
