Why Margaritaville Lake Conroe is a great Kid Friendly Weekend Getaway
Margaritaville Lake Conroe is the ultimate family resort filled with great dining options, beautiful accommodations, a friendly staff, and activities for everyone in the family. All ages will find something to enjoy.
If you live in Texas, it’s a great option for a weekend getaway because you can pack up the car and drive on over. Get all the tropical vacation vibes, right here in Texas —no plane ticket required.
Margaritaville Lake Conroe is about an hour north of Houston. My family and I drove from North Dallas and it took about 4 hours to get there.
We took this trip with my mother-in-law. As I mentioned here, since the pandemic we have been looking for trips that accommodate our multi-generational family. Margaritaville did just that!

Margaritaville lake conroe cottages and rooms
Margaritaville, Texas is located on the expansive Lake Conroe. The resort boasts a tower that goes to the 20th floor which offers beautiful views of the resort's golf course and pools.
The resort also has lake view cottages. The cottages are mini suites on the property but separate from the tower. Some of the cottages include a loft with beds, to give more space.
My family and I stayed in a lakefront suite in the main tower. The room had a cute nautical decor and wood floors (which is great when coming in from the pool). Our room included 2 double beds in the room and a living room area that had a king pull out bed.
Our family of 5 slept comfortably in the suite. I also liked that the bathroom had a double sink, which was convenient for bedtime and getting ready in the morning.
Restaurants at Margaritaville Lake Conroe
One of the things I really appreciate about Margaritaville Resort is that everything you need is available for your convenience once you arrive. You really don’t need to leave the resort for anything. The resort has in-room dining and seven different restaurants to choose from.
Joe Merchant’s Coffee and Provisions
Once we arrived and checked into our room, it was lunch time and we were hungry. We enjoyed pizzas at Joe Merchant Coffee and Provisions. I stopped by every morning to grab coffee.
There are two sit down restaurants on the property, and we visited both during our stay.
LandShark Bar and Grill
We had dinner at the Landshark Bar and Grill during our first night. The restaurant is not in the main tower, but it’s a short walk from the tower. If you’re not up for the walk the whole family can get a ride on a golf cart from one of the valet drivers.
There is lakeside and indoor seating. The food here is inline with your typical American family restaurant. The kids enjoyed chicken fingers (this seemed to be their go to meal most of this trip) and mac and cheese.
For adults I recommend: The nachos (these are definitely shareable) and the key lime pie.
Boathouse Bar and Lounge
The Hubs and I popped in one evening after the kids and my MIL went to bed. We grabbed a drink and listened to live music here. This place has a sports bar vibe. There were TVs showing various games and you could order light bites here.
Water Park Swim up and Walk-up Bar
When you can manage to pull the kids away from the pool and the waterpark, you can get lunch and cocktails here.
I recommend: quesadillas, margarita (when in Margaritaville…), Pina colada.
Things to Do at Margaritaville Lake Conroe
There is no shortage of activities to do at Margaritaville Lake Conroe. We were there for 3 days and still didn’t do it all.
The front desk will give you a list of daily events happening during your stay. In addition to those events you can do the following:
Jolly Mon Water Park
This was my daughter’s favorite spot! She and my son had a blast splashing, sliding, and getting dunked by the Margaritaville bucket!
There is a splash area for toddlers. The water play area is perfect for young kids because the water is less than 3 feet. There is also a lazy river that goes around the whole water park. This is great for kids and adults.
My son and the Hubs had fun going down the two big slides and swimming in the bigger pools. There are 2 pools and 2 hot tubs.
Parrot Island Mini Golf
After dinner one evening we got clubs and balls and headed to the Parrot Island Mini Golf for some family fun. The course is 18 holes with varying levels of difficulty for putt putt golf. My seven year old and Mother-in-law had a great time. You can be competitive and keep score or just enjoy it as a fun family activity.
Fins Up Arcade
When I told you Margaritaville at Lake Conroe, thought of it all—I wasn’t lying. There is even an arcade in the main tower. We played old school Pac Man, and some of the other arcade games.
Other activities:
- Basketball court
- Tennis Court
- Pickle Ball and table tennis
- Water sports - you can rent paddle boats and other boats and even fishing equipment at the Einstein's Surf and Boat Shop.
- 18 Hole Golf Course
- Boat Cruise
Margaritaville at Lake Conroe Spa: St. Somewhere Spa
I’ve been making a habit of booking spa treatments when I take a family vacation. If the hotel or resort we’re staying in has a spa, best believe I will be booking a massage. As much as I love my family, we all know traveling with kids is a trip and not necessarily a vacation. Visiting the spa has been a way for me to truly rest and recharge during the trip and offers a brief reprieve.
The St. Somewhere Spa was so tranquil. It offers a variety of treatments from massages, to facials. I enjoyed a hot stone massage, and my massage therapist, April, was the best!
After my massage, when I finally awoke from my slumber and gathered myself, I visited the steam room and hung out in the spa lounge, sipping green tea and spa water, and just zoning out.
Margaritaville Lake Conroe day passes
Margaritaville Lake Conroe offers day passes and Cabana rentals through Resort Pass.
If you can’t stay at the hotel, you can visit the golf course, spa, Landshark Bar & Grill, License to Chill, Joe Merchant’s and Playin’ A Round Café (the golf club house) as they are all opened to the public. However, guest and Resort Pass holders can enjoy mini-golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, fitness center, water park, and pools.
