Pangea Restaurant and Bar Brunch Review

Pangea Restaurant and Bar Brunch Review

Pangea Restaurant and Bar is a great black owned brunch spot in Garland, Texas. The food and drinks are worth the drive to the East side of town.

A few years ago I attended Diner En Blanc, Dallas and had the pleasure of eating a meal created by Chef Kevin Ashade. I followed him on Instagram and was thrilled in late 2019 when he opened his own restaurant. I couldn’t wait to visit. Whelp, then 2020 happened and you know what a hater Corona was to the restaurant industry.

I am so glad Pangea didn’t only survived but is alive and poppin’ in 2021. Let’s get into the deets so you can go see for yourself.

What to Expect

The restaurant is just off the highway in Garland, which makes it easy to find. It is a free standing building surrounded by apartments. There was valet parking but I found free parking near the apartment so my walk wasn’t too far

We visited before Texas lifted mask requirements. Masks were required for the staff and guests, when you weren’t eating. They also did a great job of spacing out the tables.

Pangea Restaurant and Bar offers dine-in and takeout

The restaurant offers dine-in and takeout options. My brunch club chose this spot for our February, Black Girl Magic brunch. In honor of Black History Month we made it a point to dine at a Black owned restaurant.

The Aesthetics

Pangea, has a roomy indoor space and a large bar area. Dark wood tables, booths in lush royal blue velvet and chartreuse leather chairs fill the space.

It was a nice Spring day so my brunch crew enjoyed our meal on the covered patio. Not only is the patio covered, but it’s screened in which will be much appreciated as we get into Summer.

What to Order at Pangea Restaurant and Bar

Pangea has dinner every day and brunch on the weekends. I can only speak to the brunch because that was the move on this visit. And the brunch is bomb!

Drinks

The boba mimosa flight is popular and very cute for the gram. It wasn’t overly sweet but it’s not something I have to order again.

My favorite cocktail was the frozen sangria mimosa.

Our waiter was friendly and handled our table of 5 very well.  He also answered all of our questions about the menu and had great suggestions. Pangea is a solid choice for brunch. I can’t wait to return and try their dinner and happy hour menu.

  • The food was just OK, but cost twice as much as it should. The Have Merci was a braised chicken breast with mashed potatoes. Should that cost more than 16? It was $32! Also additional sides were $10 for a small cup. The waiter gave good service, but the music was so loud that you would have to yell to be heard. Difficult to hear over other customers yelling. Not a place for conversation, or affordable food, regardless of it’s quality, which wasn’t amazing.

    • That’s too bad you had that experience. I haven’t gone for dinner, however, everyone I brunched with enjoyed the food and the service and found it to be a good value.
