I will be the first to tell you, I'm not a huge sports fan. I know that's blasphemy when living in a city like Dallas, where even little league sports is a big deal. I'm that girl who is at the watch party for the food and drinks! The problem is most sports bars leave a lot to be desired if you're a foodie. At last, I found a place that gets it! Walk On's definitely understands that some of us are more here for the food than the game.
The latest sports bar on the DFW scene is Baton Rouge based Walk On's Bistreaux & Bar. The first location recently opened in Las Colinas, but there are plans to open another location in Arlington. From the name, and the fact that the establishment originated in Louisianan, you know there will be some Creole and Cajun flair on these dishes. I had the pleasure of speaking with the head chef, who boasted they are a kitchen focused sports grill.
There menu is vast, with options that range from your typical sports bar favorites, like loaded fries and burgers to unexpected items like seared ahi tuna, which was one of my favorite appetizers. As well as a pepper jelly shrimp salad, which was fresh and flavorful.
The standout items for me were as follows: Appetizers: The queso which has venison. My friend enjoyed the boudin balls.
Entree: Shrimp and grits, although I would tell them to hold the bacon wrapped around the shrimp. I don't eat pork, but even my friend who does, found it to be a bit much. The grits however, were very creamy. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her catfish atchafalaya.
Dessert: I love a good beignet but I found this one to be a bit gummy and not as light an airy as I prefer. The Krispy Kreme bread pudding is sinful. It's literally a donut bread pudding. It was way too sweet for my liking but other people at our table enjoyed it. My favorite dessert was the skillet chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. They also have some delicious milk shakes if you'd rather sip your dessert.
Whether or not you're going for the game or just for the food, head over to Walk On's.
