My family and I moved to the U.S. from Jamaica when I was very young but the flavors of Jamaica were constant in my home. 

As a kid growing up my mom used to make this Guinness punch on Friday evenings and she would let me get a little taste. It’s such a treat to enjoy as a dessert cocktail or alongside a savory meal.

What is Guinness Punch

Jamaican Guinness punch is a rich and creamy beverage that is a beloved staple in Jamaican cuisine. This drink is made with a unique blend of ingredients that come together to create a flavor that is both sweet and bitter, with a hint of spice.

Even if you’re not a beer drinker, I think you’ll enjoy this drink, because it’s giving adult milk shake more so than beer beverage. 

If you’ve never tried Jamaican Guinness punch before, now is the perfect time to give it a try. Make it for St. Patty’s day or just because.

Guinness Punch Ingredients

(Note: the full ingredients list, including measurements, is provided in the recipe card directly below.)

Guinness Stout – you can use any stout beer for this punch but Guinness is traditionally used.

Milk -I used whole milk to give it a full body creamy texture.

Vanilla ice cream – vanilla ice cream gives this drink it’s thick milkshake-like feel.

Condensed milk – thick sweet condensed milk balances out the bitterness from Guinness.

Cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla – these spices enhance the flavor of the drink.



There are recipes for this punch that omit ice cream, but this is how my mom makes hers so this is what we’re doing. I think the addition of ice cream makes this a more decadent cocktail.

I’ve seen variations of this drink where chocolate or coffee ice cream is used instead of vanilla. I haven’t tried those but I can see how coffee and chocolate would compliment the stout.

Jamaican Guinness Punch


Traditionally Nutrament or Supligent is used in this drink. However, I know those ingredients aren’t readily available so we’re using milk instead. 

In Jamaica this drink is rumored to build stamina and is an afrodisiac. I’m pleading the 5th on that, and just telling you what I heard! 

Guinness Punch with Egg

Some people add an egg to this punch. I haven’t tried it with the egg, so I can’t attest to the flavor.

I’m not a huge fan of cocktails that include raw eggs but go for it if you’d like to give it whirl. 

Vegan Guinness Punch 

For a vegan version of this punch you can substitute the milk, ice cream, and condensed milk for plant based substitutes. Even the whipped cream topping used to garnish the punch can be swapped out for almond milk whipped cream. 

What to eat with Guinness Punch

I’ve sipped this punch as an after dinner drink for a dessert. It’s also delicious with spicy and savory dishes. I recommend eating this with:

Jamaican Guiness Punch

Thick and creamy Guinness punch gives you a taste of Jamaica with just a few simple ingredients. An easy and satisfying cocktail.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes


  • 2 bottles Guinness stout
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 pint vanilla ice cream


    Blend all ingredients until smooth. Serve over cracked ice.

Garnish with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon.


To make a vegan punch substitute the milk, ice cream, and condensed milk for plant based versions



How to store your Leftover Punch

If you have leftover punch pour into a pitcher and chill in the refrigerator. You will need to mix the punch in the pitcher before serving again because the ingredients will settle to the bottom.

This punch can be stored in the fridge for about 2 days for optimum flavor.
